Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Co-Director, UCLA Center for World Health Global Health Education Program; Director of Internal Medicine, Seed Global HealthDr. Fola May is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Digestive Diseases and co-director of the UCLA Center for World Health Global Health Education Program. She graduated from Yale University with a degree in Biology and then attended the University of Cambridge to study international systems of health care delivery before matriculating to Harvard Medical School. After completing a residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), she became a clinical instructor in the Department of Medicine and Manager of Trainee Affairs for the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office. Fola then joined the UCLA Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) Program, completing a fellowship in gastroenterology at UCLA and a PhD in health policy and management from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Dr. May’s research addresses challenges in access to preventative services nationally and internationally, community engagement in health, and patient education. Dr. May has participated in global health programs in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania, and South Africa. She is the Director of Internal Medicine for Seed Global Health, an organization that partners with the Peace Corps to strengthen health education and delivery in countries facing a dire shortage of health professionals.
