The UCLA Center for World Health seeks to improve the health of people and communities around the world through global education programs and interdisciplinary research addressing the most pressing health issues. Our international clinical initiatives aim to build capacity through training and service partnerships, guiding the world’s next generation of leaders to act as visionaries when addressing world health challenges.
A glimpse of some of our programs and initiatives:
- China – UCLA partners with health centers in China to improve the pathology services of the Chinese health care system, in order to ensure more accurate diagnoses and improve health outcomes.
- Malawi – The combined efforts of CWH and our local partners have led to a dramatic reduction in the maternal-infant HIV transmission rate from 30% to 3%.
- Mozambique – Five years ago, there were no pediatric surgeons for the 10 million children in Mozambique. We have trained the first pediatric surgeon in the country, and our program is now training other surgeons and having a dramatic impact on pediatric surgical care in one of the world’s poorest countries.
- Nicaragua – We are building a tele-education program in Nicaragua for the purpose of increasing the capacity of Nicaraguan health care providers to deliver high-quality care and conduct research.
